When BYU was 5-2 last year with and admittedly tough schedule ahead, I thought we were a lock for a bowl game. I thought for sure we couldn't go 5 games without at least one win, even against some team we were not favored to beat. We got very close against OSU with a 2 OT loss, not to mention playing Oklahoma tight, but it didn't pan out.
It's tough for any passionate fan base to endure 5 straight losses and a losing season after a promising 5-2 start and you can't really blame fans for feeling uncertain about this season. We gave up an average of 37.5 points over the last five games and our O-line just looked lost the second half of that season.
Fast forward to our current status with a win over an SMU team that is technically in the ACC and a ranked K-State team that was favored to beat us and potentially win the B12 this year and there's an awful lot to be excited about. Our O-Line has also been getting a push and making our 4th/5th/6th string running backs look pretty good as well as setting a decent pocket for our QB.
Our Defense has held teams to 13, 15, 14, and 9 points, respectively, which included holding an SMU team that just pinned 66 on SMU and a KSU team that put up 31 on a ranked Arizona team. BYU fans should be all aboard.
