Paraphrasing:
“I thought the O-line player of the game, and maybe the offensive player of the game, was backup right guard Bruce Mitchell. He absolutely dominated the LOS the entire night!”
Before game one I thought our depth at OL was a major problem, so when I saw we were starting a 3rd string guard (and a converted DT) vs KSU I had HIGE concerns. The best I hoped was that he would just be marginally adequate.
The fact that Mitchell not only held his own, but dominated, … well that gives me new optimism for the rest of this season and into next year.
By the way… Poppinga was asked if Mitchell should start next game, even if the first and second string guys are healthy. Poppinga wouldn’t answer the question, but said, “If it was the NFL, he would get the start, simply based on his dominant performance last game.”
Way to go, Bruce!!
