Some thoughts on the game...
The game reminded me a little bit of last year's game where things went BYU's way. I can't remember if it was versus Cincinnati or Texas Tech. But, it was the game where Slovis through over the middle and I think it was Robert's who may have actually run the wrong route but he caught it in stride and BYU scored a touchdown on the play. That game felt a bit like fool's Gold. And while things certainly bounced BYU's way in that game last night, This one felt much different. And I think it's mainly because of the way the defense has continued to play and it was done against a team that was ranked #13.

The defense is legit. They're big, strong, fast, and they make plays. There are times when they just flat out smother an offense, and there are other times where they bend but don't break. Last night especially in the first half they did a lot of bend but don't break until that crazy sequence right before half time. So long as that unit can stay reasonably healthy, they will keep BYU in every game this season.

The most impressive stat for the defense is the fact that they still have not allowed a passing touchdown through four games. When has BYU ever done that?

The offense and Jake Retzlaff...
I felt like the defense just needed an offense to manage the game and make a few plays. Retzlaff fell in to that role yesterday. No turnovers and some really efficient passing. He was 15-21 and had two drops on that first drive. If they catch those balls he's 17 of 21. Greg said that he set a career high for pass efficiency that's something like 163? I could be wrong on the exact number. I think it was Hans that said if you're better than 150 you're going to win games. The point is, Jake has absolutely improved. If he can be efficient and not turn the ball over, there's enough playmakers for BYU to do some damage this year.

Having said that, my concern is still with the offense. They are a little bit inconsistent at times. I would like to see more consistency and sustain drives. And they also definitely need to improve 3rd down efficiency.

Special teams has scored two touchdowns in 2 weeks. Although Kingston's punt return was one of the most insane plays I've seen in a long time at BYU, He has had some trouble feeling punts thus far this year and that needs to clean up. Will Ferrin is a wonderful luxury to have, although The one field goal was a little too close for comfort.

4-0. Can't ask for anything better. BYU has already won two games that they were not supposed to win (according to ESPN FPI and Vegas oddsmakers). The only problem is now that BYU is ranked and boat raced KSU, they're not sneaking up on anybody anymore.
