is for the "humans are absolute IDIOTS, and almost every line of code has to be written with keeping-a-drunk/distracted/imbecilic-human-in-another-car-from-smashing-into-this-vehicle in mind" part.
Any automation tech has to be RIDICULOUSLY conservative to account for human error in other drivers. It's annoying that my autosteer slams on the brakes when an oncoming vehicle turns left and crosses my lane 100 yards ahead of me (completely safely, they'll be well out of my path long before I get there), because the programming senses that there is a vehicle obstructing my path, even if for but a moment. And the code writers can't gamble on the fact that the left-turner won't do something ridiculous like stop in my lane mid-turn.
BUT, once all (or even most) vehicles on the road communicate with one another, human injury and death due to car accidents will drop to statistically zero.
