... even with the Miracle Bowl, I would give the clutch award to Max Hall. He is the all time wins leader at BYU and he NEVER lost a gave decided by 7 points or less. I think sometimes BYU fans overlook how good we had it with Hall to win ALL of the close games. Sure, he had some meltdowns against TCU x 2, and at Utah 2008, FSU 2009, but Detmer had a lot more of those. I guess I am saying my strongest leaning for the definition of "clutch" is to win all of those one score games, above all.
