Some of you are or have taken care of loved ones with dementia.
It runs in my family. We've kind of had a tradition of trying to keep them at home and with family as long as possible, but as I make plans for my elder years, I don't think I want my family to deal with me in that situation. I hear friends joke about having their family take them up in the mountains and set them loose. I know they're being funny but I have some empathy for them I think. Is it bad to say "if you can afford it, put me in a home and go live your lives?" Is that taking something from them? After watching a couple close family members go through this I just don't think I want to put family through that - you know?
