in SLC and the family chose Roy to live in in the summer of 75. Jim's dad had a great deal of influence in getting Jim to go to BYU as his dad knew BYU threw the ball and would give Jim a chance to get noticed throwing it. Also, BYU told Jim he could play baseball which Jim wanted to do. In high school, Jim was an outstanding pitcher and shortstop when he didn't pitch and could hit the cover off the ball. BTW, he missed basketball practice a fair amount, which was okay with him, to go on football recruiting trips, but some of the schools recruiting him weren't known for throwing it. He always made it back for basketball games and he helped us win region our senior year.
