...one week Retzlaff would edge ahead then the next week GBo would. That final week of fall camp when coaches were pressed to make a decision so the week 1 starter could be named and have all the reps to prep for SIU was a week where JR edged ahead enough for coaches to call it in his favor.
It's not like there was an avalanche of momentum in JRs favor, more like two runners pushing each other down the home stretch and JR got a better lean at the finish line than GBo to clinch it.
The difference between them could 100% be because Jake is a better practice player but not as good in live play (as we've seen through 6 games as starter). Wouldn't be the first time we've seen that at BYU (*cough* Jake Heaps vs Riley Nelson!!)
