I use this recipe. Similar to my mom's.
Of course I make about 50% extra topping and grate nutmeg into it. Then I kind of go 50/50 with the cloves/cinnamon in the apples. I'll use whatever apples I have, but I guess a mix of sweet/tart are best. Apple pomegranate sounds great!
