StantonMac Monkey see monkey do
I just finished my first two books narrated by Scott Brick
Eruption (Michael Crichton/James Patterson) and The Atlas Maneuver (Steve Berry).

I listened to Eruption first. The narration was truly awful. It took me a while to place it, but it after a while dawned on me that the narration sounded just like Peterman on the Seinfeld show. Slow, with an emphasis on every word. Normal conversation was overly emotional. There were frequent places where dialogue was delivered in a way that you would never hear in normal conversation. It was bad.

Then I started listening to a new book without paying attention to who the narrator was. The voice sounded familiar, then I realized it was the same guy. I wouldn't call his narration good, but it wasn't bad either. It was much more normal. Phrases sounded like you would expect them to sound.

I'd give him a 0 out of 5 on the first book, and 3 out of 5 on the second. Enough of a variance that I'll start books by him in the future, but if I get a hint of the Peterman voice I'm bailing and will either find something else to listen to, or read the book myself.
