With the Stanford announcement I looked at future schedules. I noticed that in 2026 it looks like we start playing 7 home games and 5 away games, like the big boys. I can appreciate that.

That being said, what about the idea of rotating in a “Royal Series” neutral-site game every 4 years or so in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. So in that year we would play 6 home, 5 away, and 1 neutral. I liked watching USC and LSU play in Vegas a couple weeks ago.

Feels like BYU could use that as an opportunity for a one-off game with a marquee opponent, like how Utah has scheduled Florida and Michigan in the past (although those were not one-offs) but those early season marquee games bring a lot of excitement. I feel like even BYU fans were tuned into the Utah game at Florida in 2022.

That’s my idea. Maybe we could even play Utah State there sometimes, like how basketball has used the Delta Center in SLC.

Edit: And actually the more I think about it, the more I think with BYU’s national brand, it wouldn’t even have to be in Vegas every time. Throw our east coast fans a bone sometime and play in Gillette Stadium. Play in SoFi for the California crowd. I know independence is fortunately behind us, but I know some of our fans on the coasts appreciated the chances to see the Cougs in person.
