essentially his. I'm sure it became Tuiaki's pretty fast, but he had been at Oregon State and Utah prior, and he definitely didn't learn that defense under KW and Gary Anderson.
Ed Lamb was the most experienced coach on Kalani's staff when he got hired. It seems that for that and other reasons, Ed Lamb was highly influential on how the team was run. Kalani has admitted he may have been a bit too hands off. If that's true, it makes sense that Ed Lamb must have been more hands on. Why else would two guys from Whittingham's coaching tree run that low pressure, zone based defense you all hated?
Kalani needed Lamb's experience and probably trusted his ideas too. It became pretty obvious to me that he was a factor in that defense too when he left after 2022 as well.
On a related note, I looked up Tuiaki the other day and saw that he's back coaching at Oregon State, defensive line. Good for him. I bet he's a much better coach when he's not running a prevent zone no pass rush system with too many substitutions.
