I'd venture a guess that you're paying much more than that (as the rural juror points out, usually you pay higher monthly rates if you "get your phone for free" as part of a plan). If you do the math over 10-15 years I bet you're paying similar amounts or more overall compared to people who buy their phone outright and find a plan that is "BYOD" (bring your own device).
