Generally speaking it does, but not when you're projected 10th or 11th in the
pecking order. Here's the bowl tie-ins for the Big 12 this year.
1. CFB Playoff (plus possible at-large teams)
2. Alamo Bowl vs P12/former P12 team
3. Pop-Tarts Bowl vs ACC
4. Texas Bowl vs SEC
5. Liberty Bowl vs SEC
6. Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs B1G
7. Independence Bowl vs P12/former P12 (B12 is contracted for a spot either this year or next year)
Alternate affiliations if available:
Armed Forces Bowl vs AAC
First Responders Bowl vs ACC or AAC
Utah, Arizona, ASU, and Colorado also have tie-ins to Las Vegas, Holiday, LA, and Sun Bowls and will likely end up there if Bowl eligible but not in the playoff.
