For those not familiar, an arepa uses corn flour to make a "bread" that is then cut open and stuffed with a variety of meats and other goodies. A patacon uses fried plantains as the "bread". There's lots of different takes on both, depending where you go. I know both are common in Columbia and Venezuela.
