I really tire of hearing that we should not be concerned about Retzlaff because Steve Young threw six interceptions in a game, and Ty Detmer had 28 INT's the year he won the Heisman. FYI, the game has changed a lot in this regard. If you look at the QB Heisman winners from the past ten years, this is how many INT's those QB's threw in their final year of college:

Jayden Daniels- 4
Caleb Williams- 5
Bryce Young- 5
Joe Burrow- 6
Kyler Murray- 7
Baker Mayfield- 6
Lamar Jackson- 10
Marcus Mariota- 4

So the outlier here is Lamar Jackson, and he only threw 10 INT's. There is a clear trend in the direction of QB's turning the ball over less than 30-40 years ago. I do not know why that is the case, but it is clear that something about the way that QB's play is different than the Young/Bosco/Detmer days. That does not mean that Retzlaff cannot continue to develop and become better, and I sincerely hope that he does, but anyone who thinks that we are going to win lots of games in the Big 12 with the type of QB play we saw on Saturday is mistaken. Retzlaff is going to have to get better if we want to see more than 5-6 wins, because no matter how good our defense is, we cannot expect to go out and stop every team from getting in the endzone. If SMU had scored even a single TD they would have beaten us.
