his monster year of 12 he would hit 12 years later.

The dead ball era was crazy. Playing with 1 ball the entire game. Even in 1920 when it ended with rule changes they carved out 17 spitballers who were allowed to keep throwing it until they retired.

I hear they used to bang trash cans to let their batter know if a stolen sign breaking ball was coming. It's crazy how much cheating was condoned back then. Glad players get significantly punished if they tried stuff like that 100 years later.

(That was pretty impressive how I naturally turned that into an Astros post. Maybe they are in my head.)
