Safety is the ONLY reason it has been implemented. They tout more returns etc
But you can achieve the same thing (more returns) by making touchbacks on the classic kickoffs go to the 35 or 40 yard line.
It’s unAmerican and completely eliminates the surprise onside kick. Sad.
