Shout out to Blake Mangelson and the DL in general - #92, #93, & #94 ROCKED!!

In the video the first two plays are a great example of the impact he had on the game. I have to give love to the DL in general - #92, #93, & #94 have vastly improved and coach Hill's scheme is fantastic. We are getting the the QB with only three guys!! Our LBers were great, but it was because Mangelson had a great night. Shout out to Nelson and Batty too.

PLAY 1: 0:00

In the first play he pushed his man into the back field and caused the RB to hesitate and then have to bounce outside for Taggart to clean him up for a 4 yard TFL. Taggart got the stat. Blake made it happen, heck he almost got the TFL himself! John Nelson also shoved his double team into the expected running lane, causing the RB to bounce it outside.

PLAY 2: 0:21

The second play is a thing of beauty. Batty almost got the sack off a simple bull rush with a spin into the QB, but missed. Batty needs to get home on a one-on-one like that. Blake gets double teamed and pushes his two O-linemen 8 yards into the back field and almost into Batty's whiff. John Nelson also got good push on his double team. This caused the QB to not have space to step up in the pocket, so the QB only has one way to go. Jack Kelly cleans it up with the 10 yard sack. Again Kelly gets the stat. I think the biggest impact was Blake on that play. He made it happen. Batty is usually double teamed or at least gets chipped by a RB, but Mangelson took on a double team and beat them soundly. Even a third O-lineman drops off Nelson and tries to help on Mangelson.

PLAY 3: 3:27 (note that this is Jennings' first drive, so I think the D-Line was back on their heals a bit to see what he could do)

On first review, I thought Blake really missed an opportunity here. He could have stopped a 15 yard gain here, but did not. He is one-on-one and does not shed his block and so he can only make an attempt to arm tackle the SMU QB, which he misses. On second review, he just got hit by a pulling guard, which is a hard shot to take. He not only takes it, but he stands up the pulling guard and had a good angle on the tackle. He was just too late, as Jennings slipped by. Some of it was fatigue on his part, as he gets subbed out after the play, but he was close on have another solid stop, as a tackle there would have left SMU in 3rd and 7.

There is more I'd like to break down, but maybe later.
