KYU Intervention Needed
I think the reason that many are so upset about the QB play and the play calling despite being 2-0
Is that this team actually looks better than expected in some areas, specifically on defense and even O'line play.
It's clear that this team could be much more competitive than expected, but despite being 2-0 the fear is that we wont be as fortunate against P4 conference competition.

There are good points to the poor play calling by Arod, but it is complicated. A lot of the play calling decisions IMO had to do with the concern that Jake couldn't make the throws, or worse throw to the wrong team. Things really changed after the fumble in how Jake played, how ARod called the game, and then there were adjustments by SMU on defense.

It would have been stupid to bench him after that fumble. I think they made the right call to keep him in after the first int, but that was a terrible throw. It was a major blow to the Idea that Jake has moved past those mistakes from last year.

The fact that they stuck with Jake tells me what we feared in that we didn't have two great QB's in camp that didn't separate because they both just rose to the occasion. It tells me that they both are who they are...fringe D1 qb's.

I would stay with Retz for the next 2 games on a leash. If he can turn the corner it will help us with our QB situation next year. I'd put gerry on notice to be ready to go. I'd have a convo with my OC to immediately adjust his approach to game planning and show improvements or else. If I'm Tom I'm looking hard at finding an OC. (I would have looked for a new HC a few years ago, but that isn't happening so i wont go there.

Also I hope Kalani can fix these issues on offense. If he does he earns more time despite knowing what he isn't. If he cant lead up his OC on these issues then it's just another example of him not being better than just a mediocre coach
