Maybe we were expecting too much of the offense after SIU. We were given no
no chance to beat SMU for a reason and I know I'm guilty for losing some perspective with the blue goggles thinking our offense was pretty decent and the QB position was going to have no problems relative to last year. After realigning my perspective I feel pretty grateful that the defense was able to ball out enough to give us the unlikely win, and that they look pretty good going forward. Unless Retzlaff can make a jump we might end up having the expected mediocre at best season after all but hopefully our defense can add something to that

I'm not sure what the specific reason was why analysts thought we were going to lose this game but I'm positive that they didn't expect our defense to be that effective. I'm also pretty sure they would have expected our offense to play like they did though. Maybe it was just based solely off of our record from last year but what we can take from this win is that our defense is a good deal better than last year's.
