KS and ARod have very large loyalty. Sometimes I think it gets in the way. It takes a long time to move through personel even when there is obvious issues. It takes more time to move on from coordinators. It works out sometimes (like Etienne) but more often than not it leads to issues. It is great, however, for the locker room. Your coach trusts that you can figure it out and get the job done.
This leads to our next hang up, specifically for ARod. He has stated before that he is going to stick to his call no matter where the ball is on the field. He does this for down and distance AND personnel, too. This leads to issues like screens on 3rd and 10, or having an injured Kedon Slovis run a draw. This leads to everyone’s favorite play, the jet sweep to the short side. It doesn’t work. Period. This encapsulates the biggest flaw this current staff has. They either don’t have the awareness to change (doubtful) or are too set in their ways to change. I don’t care if it’s ego or pure crazy, you have to put it to the side, and be flexible during the game. If this doesn’t change, the program won’t change and develop and we will be stuck in a middling rut for years.
