Course ideas for BYU student?Other alternatives to get to 12 credits? Unorthodox
My son is a Classical Studies Major. He’s missing the first 3 weeks of BYU classes because he’s in Italy studying Latin with another college.

However, he still needs to have 12 credits at BYU for Fall semester to qualify to receive his scholarship and certain financial aid.

It’s tough to take any class when you miss the first 3 weeks. He got permission to miss the first 3 weeks of a Latin class, which should turn out okay because that’s what he’s studying in Italy now.

He’s also taking a Fall 2nd term class or 2. But you don’t want to load up too much at the end of your semester.

Independent Study classes don’t count toward the 12 total credits needed.

So to get to 12 credits, he signed up for a Humanities online class (which does count toward the total), but it’ll require taking time out of his Latin studies to spend time on a Humanities class he doesn’t need (except for the fact that it gets him to 12 credits)— while he’s in a foreign country for the purpose of focusing on that country and on Latin. And really needs to focus on that program, because it’s where he’s going academically.

Any ideas for a class that would make more sense? There are no other Latin classes he could take.

BYU can make exceptions to the 12-credit rule for scholarship and financial aid purposes, but it looks like his reason may not qualify.

Anybody know of any other potential alternatives? Different courses or outside the box solutions?

Thanks!
