We've done this a couple of different ways.
One we called Iron Chef. We enlisted the help of 5-6 different families around the ward who were willing to donate their kitchen. Everyone begins at the church. We divide into teams of 4-5 youth. They are given 2-3 "secret ingredients" that they have to use while making whatever it is they're making. And they are allowed to use anything in the fridge/pantry of the hosting family.

We did another that was similar, but instead we had a bunch of potential ingredients from each of the 5 food groups. We set up 5 tables, putting each food group on it's own table. Then we did some sort of relay-type race that included picking one item from each of the tables then running back to their team, then sending the next person. So teams could choose to pick a vegetable first, or a protein first, for example. They had to take at least one item from each table, then make an entre from the ingredients picked.

The final version - this was just the priests - we had them pick an "easy missionary meal". Had to be something they could prepare in 15 minutes or less. Everyone brought their own ingredients. Then they judged which was the best of the 15 minute meals. Everyone had to bring the recipe and instructions for the other YM so they all went home with a handful of easy recipes they could make in 15 minutes.
