I'm a bad fan... But, I don't mind missing games I think my team will lose.
Although church training doesn't sound very fun, but I'll assume the equivalent with a trip to the beach that my wife wants me to go to or another social event with good food... Just go, ignore the game, and then check the score after. If BYU loses, then you were spared 4 hours of misery and erase it from your DVR or whatever and never think about it again. If they win, you can go home and watch it from the start and enjoy every minute of it knowing the outcome.

Yes, that makes me a bad fan I guess.

If it's a home game it's another situation because you have to go and cheer loudly and support the team. But if it's a game you were going to watch on TV, I never watch them live if I think there's a greater than 50% chance my team will lose. I'm not saying this strategy is for everyone, but it works for me.

I'm also on the east coast and go to bed early anyway. The first year I moved here, I ruined too many Sunday mornings because I was up at 10PM for a game that we lost anyway and then I was grouchy all day the next day because I couldn't sleep. Now I go to bed early, wake up at 6 or 7 AM the next day, and check the score. If we lost I just shrug it off and think "glad I missed that garbage." If we win, then I watch the reply before church starts and enjoy.
