I pretty much need all those things
We're gonna have 4-5 shots at beating a ranked squad this year, and most of those will be at home. If we get to 6 wins but lose to all of the best teams, so be it. It will still mean we notched some respectable wins. But historically, a quality BYU team should absolutely expect to beat a couple ranked vistitors this year (i.e. signature win).

I do need to see us not make the same specific, totally controllable, boneheaded penalty 3-4 games in a row.

I'd like us to NOT blow consecutive golden opportunities to knock off ranked teams to save our season--one with arguably (probably) the worst turnover I've seen as a BYU fan and the other in a complete 2nd half collapse.

And I want us to show up consistently, appearing well-prepared and motivated. I don't want to see us get blown out as we are overwhlemed on both sides of the ball several times, particularly when the opponents doing it are solid but not spectacular (or even in the top 25).

I've cheered Kalani and defended him. But 2022 was wildly inconsistent, underachieved by a game or two, and 2023 was just plain bad. The degree of difficulty may have gone up this year, but so be it. I need to see improvements to show up and shell out. Season tickets are already purchased, the big road trip is already planned. Beyond that, the weather is too nice in the fall, and there's other stuff to do besides dedicate Saturdays or entire weekends towards awful football. I don't particularly believe that we delivered the offseason upgrades needed to achieve what I've outlined, but it's put up or shut up time for this coaching regime.
