My son in law never takes his kids on daddy dates. I’ve always felt it’s important- the time I spent with my dad one on one are some of my favorite memories. I used to do the same with my daughter and we have fond memories of chatting over ice cream.

I’ve talked to her about it but she says my son in law is too concerned with money. He doesn’t want to spend it on “frivolous things like ice cream or movies” with the kids.

About 20 years ago their car was stolen. The judge ordered the inmate pay restitution for the car and while he was in prison they sent one check for $15. My son in law took his kids out for ice cream to celebrate.

I saw this as a great opportunity. After the dude got out of prison I kept sending checks with fake letters from the prison. I’ve pretended he has been in and out of jail as I’ve continued to send the checks over the years.

I’m proud to say my checks have been paying for daddy daughter/son dates for years…without him suspecting a thing!
