Ours leaked 200,000 gallons last year.
My wife is the one who pays the bills and because it was auto pay, she didn’t notice our bill was higher than usual. Surprisingly, that much water didn’t actually end up costing that much.

But anyways, the city came out and said it looks like we have a leak. They told us about this app where we could check our water usage so I downloaded and was pretty blown away. The city came out two months after the leak started, and between that time we’d wasted like 200,000 gallons of water. I thought for sure it was wrong because we had zero signs of that water anywhere.

Ended up renting an excavator myself to dig up the line. Eventually came to a point where there was a hold in the wall of the trench, stuck my hand in there, and there was some water, so I assume most of it drained down.

Had a plumber come fix the pipe because I didn’t want to dig under the sidewalk. Cost me about 2k for them to fix it and fill it back in.
