As I posted earlier, I just built up a bike with an old titanium frame and relatively recent Shimano 105 equipment. My father in law is an avid cyclist and has random gear laying around, including a SRAM Red crankset, that he says I can have if I want. Bummer is it's 162.5mm length instead of my usual 175mm (he's like 5'10" and I'm 6'4"). I saw on google that some say a shorter length can be better: less stress on joints, easier to spin, but it does create less power / it's harder to turn with a smaller circle. The question is whether a 6'4" dude like me should even entertain dropping that much length off a crank. Any thoughts? My sense is no notwithstanding it's free, though I'd love to shave some grams off the Praxis Alba aluminum crankset that I took off my old Specialized Allez to build up this new ride.
