Like, one of the dogs sniffs your leg for a second, and the cat hides in the bedroom because he doesn't like strangers all that much. My experience is that overly-sensitive anti-animal people occasionally blow things like that out of proportion.

If things went down just as you described, then yes, the animals would be sequestered somewhere until the guest was gone (that is assuming the guest wasn't staying for four days, or something).
