How did NFL scouts miss so badly on Puka Nacua?
Some on the board are very skeptical of recruiting rankings for players, and it is true that it is not a perfect science to evaluate talent. Case in point- Puka Nacua. It isn't as though Puka went pro and then gradually built his skillset as an NFL wide receiver. He entered the league and was IMMEDIATELY one of the best WR's in the NFL. The two sites I checked both listed him as one of the top 12-13 NFL receivers going into 2024. This should mean that a careful draft evaluation of him would have shown him to be at least starting WR caliber. How does that happen? There are more than 30 NFL teams who each independently evaluate talent, and not one of them thought he was better than a fifth round pick? Or perhaps a few teams did think that he was better than that, but thought that no one else did, so that they could wait longer to pick him? It is an amazing outcome.
