In college, he started in the infield for 4 years, and also pitched out of the bullpen. The Padres drafted him and had him only playing infield. When the Dodgers traded for him prior to the 2022 season, they decided to switch him to pitcher. In 2022 he pitched all year in A ball. Last year, he spent most of the season in AA, before getting a late callup to AAA. This season, he started the season injured, so they started him out in the rookie league and kicked him up the chain as he got built up.
