Take a look at "Starting Strength" by olympic weight coach Mark Ripptoe. Lots of people swear by his

squat and deadlift form.  I can say I haven't had knee or lower back pain since switching to his method.  Many argue that their knee pain has dropped since moving to his form.  He explains the mechanics for why that is in his videos.
