The swim club teams are there competing for points. The college students are swimming USA Swimming sanctioned events to try to get a time cut. They're not competing against each other.

I watched a Navy swimmer get an Olympic time trial time while swimming in a meet that included kids as young as 12. Everyone was super excited for that swimmer. And nobody felt like Navy was dunking on the other kids.
