BYU admin is currently in talks with the Huntsman Center to broadcast games there and sell tickets to watch on the jumbo tron.
They’ve cleared one big hurdle in the negotiations so far - the issue of what to do when Utah has a home game at the same time as a BYU game. Apparently they’ll use the curtains to create a ceiling over the lower deck and the court (like a blanket fort with your kids), leaving the upper deck seating for BYU fans and enabling the jumbo tron scoreboard to be used to broadcast the BYU game to the upper deck.
It would mean no scoreboard for the Utah game and the lower deck fans, but apparently Utah admin has spoken with each of the few dozen fans and has reached the conclusion it might actually be good for the Ute fans to not see the scoreboard. A backup plan is that one season ticket holder - Braxjaxtonson Jensen from Magna - is planning to use some of his goatee gel budget to buy a junior jazz flip scoreboard to use, provided his bail bondsman comes through for him.
Final negotiating item is how much Utah would have to pay BYU for the rights. Stay tuned…
