I'm a 4k content creator and film and upload raw 4k content on youtube. At the end of the day, it's quite a bit gimmicky with the bit-rate, especially if motion is fast I might as well be filming in 1080p because artifacting is nuts. Most of that is gopro compression on the raw 4k stream, my mirrorless camera handles it significantly better, but there is still a limitation with streaming due to compression and it's not just amateur videos that have this issue, but streaming movies is the same.

One thing the streaming services do is like to compress the audio to free up video bit rate. If you spent thousands on that home theater setup and are exlusively streaming, you aren't getting your money's worth.

I only encode and upload my 4k content at 40mbps, from what I can read, youtube's max output is 51mbps, but I'm not convinced they are uploading my content at 40mbps anyway, I'm willing to bet they are compressing it further. I upload at 40 hoping that gives my content the best chance possible for quality video after youtube takes it and compresses it further. It works ok, for what it is. My raw cut when played on a USB on a 4K TV looks really, really, good, even at 40MBS, and superior to watching it streamed on youtube (though part of that could be my internet connection).

4k Blu-Ray, on the other hand, averages about 90-130 Mbps.

If one has invested in a home theater system, they should also be investing in physical media to take advantage of it.
