I have the same question! There are direct flights from ORD to PVU much cheaper
than UA direct flights to SLC, but I need a rental and I don't like airports with bad rental car options, or several options with very small fleets. SLC and bigger airports are worth it sometimes when it comes to ease of ability to get your car and go.
