Update on my Son’s recruitment.
In a couple of my previous post, a couple of you had asked about my son’s recruitment. Boy have we learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes but regardless it’s all working out.

He just committed to Irvine Valley College in Irvine.

He had a lot of Buzz and interest after his Junior year where he was 1st team all State in 5A with interest from some smaller D1 programs like Queens University in Charlotte (from Coach Horodyski who kept in touch with my son while he was still coaching at BYU) and Georgia Southern. Unfortunately, after a blazing start to his Senior year averaging about 22 per game he broke a bone in his shooting hand. The bone wasn’t displaced so the doctor said after a week he could play and it wouldn’t make it worse or slow the healing but it would be very painful for a month or so. Well, my son decided to play through it and while still effective, he wasn’t himself dribbling or shooting. The last 3-4 weeks of the season he started looking like himself again and finished really strong with 3 games over 30 pts in that stretch and 2 triple doubles.

Anyways, that affected his recruitment but regardless he still had 5 offers that he was entertaining. 2 very good D2 schools (Top 15-25) most years and some Jucos that really wanted him. Honestly he wasn’t super excited about any of them though.

Regardless they all needed him to make a decision within the first week or two of July or they were going to move on.

With that decision looming he went out to spend some time visiting family in California and decided while he was out there to send some emails and highlights to a few Juco coaches close to where his Grandma and cousins live in Orange County.

The response was instant. 3 of the coaches wanted him to come visit campus and the next day he set up to go visit 2. Orange Coast College and Irvine Valley.

After his visit with the Irvine Valley coach, he was super excited. He loved the school, the facilities and the coach. The Coach wanted him to commit right there in his office after the visit , but he said he need to talk to his dad first.

He called me, and I could hear the excitement in his voice. This was excitement that had been totally missing with his other offers. I told him I was proud of him and he needed to pray about it and he still felt good about it to go ahead and commit. It was his choice. And he did.

Anyways, if anyone read this far and knows anything about Irvine Valley please let me know. Haha

Here’s his Senior season highlights
