The sockeyes were near Bings Landing after we got off the ship in Seward. My brother-in-law gets sea sick really easily, so rather than go with the rest of our families on an 8-hour whale watch excursion around Resurrection Bay, we rented a car and drove to the Kenai where we met our guide. I met the guide last January at the Dallas Safari Club show, where I asked him if it was feasible to get off the cruise ship in Seward, drive to his location, fish for a half day, and still be able to make it back to Seward for the 6:00 train to Anchorage. He was very willing to work with us around those parameters, and as you can see, it worked out really well for us. I would definitely do the same again.
