Summer league. Summer league doesn’t matter at all. It’s just a way to begin running NBA sets in a competitive game environment before the NBA training camp starts. The only legitimate takeaway you should have is when a player seems totally overwhelmed and out of their element. That clearly didn’t happen.
But to say “wow, the 55th pick missed some shots in his first summer league game, he clearly doesn’t belong” is asinine. Like I said, Knecht had a bad shooting night. Freaking Wembanyama shot worse than Bronny in his summer league debut. It means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
But again, he’s a late second round pick. He has zero expectations. So it’s crazy to expect that he is something right now. It’s also crazy to pretend like Bronny is some Make-a-Wish type kid. He was a top 30 recruit coming out of high school who had a pretty significant injury at the beginning of his college career. Him going to the Lakers was because of LeBron. But it’s not like he’s some awful player.
