Two weeks after returning from a mission to Nazi Germany, Hitler invaded Poland and my uncle Donworth Gubler ended up returning to bomb Germany on 28 B-17 missions. He was called up again on B-29s in the Korean War and asked to study Russian. He went on to study for a doctorate at Indiana and became chairman of the Asian and Slavic languages Dept. at BYU. His other brother Clark Also was in Nazi Germany and ended up with a Ph.D. In biochemistry from Berkeley. Sadly, their BIL was killed in Germany two weeks before the end of the war in Germany and my second mother lost her husband at Iwo Jima! Ironically, I, myself am a specialist on Imperial Japanese diplomacy and lifelong Cougar fan!
