Most vehicles have an extra gallon or so in the tank when the miles hit zero. However, you run the risk of running the
Fuel pump hot, thus putting extra stress on it. Ultimately, it could shorten the life of the pump if done often enough.

Don't. Your fuel pump relies on the fuel to cool it down. Low fuel = hot fuel pump = premature failure.
