I'm not anti-Kite, but he doesn't deserve to be on this list
even for consideration. I don't think anyone who saw him play would ever think of including him. He was nowhere near as good a player as Fouss Traoré, and I'm serious. He had short arms and average jumping ability. He was a fine defensive player, but an offensive liability. His career average for points was 6.4, with 7.6 rebounds. He shot 50% from the FT line. His sophomore year was his best, averaging 8.3 pts. and 8.3 rebounds with 2.2 blocks. His only shots were put-back layups and lay-ins and an only-occasional dunk (though I once saw him hit an 8 foot fallaway jumper). He rarely got fouled, as he posed no threat offensively, so you couldn't foul out any opponents with him, but because of his affirmatively bad FT shooting, that was good for BYU.

The reason Kite could start at BYU was because his teammates were all good-to-great scorers and Kite could just concentrate on protecting the rim, pounding the boards and blocking some shot. He had very strong, thick legs, which he used to push everyone away from the basket, which altered their shots and put them out of position to rebound as well. Those bulky legs were why he got drafted into the NBA, and he lasted a long time there for that reason only.

He was an excellent student and citizen, and an important player for us, but no one should be fooled by the fact that he was drafted in the first round. In the NBA, he averaged 2.5 PPG, with 3.8 RPG, .6 blocks, and .438 from the foul line.
