The short itineraries (4 days or less) there seems to be a bigger party mentality and people are there for a short getaway with the intent of getting really drunk. On the longer durations (5 days or more) you get a more normal crowd. Granted, the normal crowd is still the group looking for bargain cruises but they tend to be much more self-aware and respectful.
Royal is generally more enjoyable for families and I haven’t seen the obnoxious party crowd on any of their ships yet. I have taken my family on both cruise lines and we almost exclusively stick to royal now.
