Yes, they are committing national suicide slowly. Lots of reasons...
Including-

- Cost of raising children with emphasis on after school study centers, etc. is astronomical. Even couples that have children only have one.
- Cost of housing/living even without children
- Less women wanted to get married
- Desire to "live their life", travel, hang out, etc. Lot of the 20-30 year olds don't want the responsibility and angst involved in raising children.

Funny thing happened a few weeks ago when my son and his family visited us here in Korea. They have 4 children under 10. Several people came up to them and commented on how patriotic they are to have 4 kids. (My son is half Korean and his wife is also Korean American). They didn't have the heart to tell them the kids are American not Korean.

The government knows it is a big issue but even giving financial incentives is not working. I expect the fertility rate will continue to drop, if that is possible.
