I recently went on a long road trip to Yellowstone, Devil's Tower & Mt Rushmore
It was a loooooooot of driving but turned out to be worth it. It'd been 25 years or more since I'd been to Yellowstone and wow what a beautiful place. Was so cool seeing my kids get excited at all the wildlife we saw. We saw herds of Bison, Elk, a Black Bear and her cubs, a Grizzly (far off but able to see with Binoculars), and other animals. Some extremely close to the road. My 6 yo about lost his mind with excitement when he saw how close the Bison were to the road. I'm happy to report I didn't see any idiots getting out of their cars to get a closer look.

We then drove to Devil's Tower (looong drive) and that was a BEAUTIFUL drive. So much amazing scenery. Devil's Tower was cool. I had no idea it was the first created National Monument by Pres. Roosevelt after the Antiquities Act was passed. My older brother asked me if I had an insatiable desire for mashed potatoes after visiting there (Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

On our way to Mt. Rushmore we stopped and spent a good portion of the day in Deadwood. That was a cool town with fun outlaw and cowboy history. Then the next day to Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monuments. Many people always told me how disappointed they were in Mt. Rushmore when they got there. I had the opposite experience and thought it was really cool.

The drive home from Rushmore to Eagle Mtn. sucked because the drive through that long stretch of Wyoming is just awful. Evanston is one of the biggest holes to ever grace this earth.

All in all an epic and memorable road trip seeing lots of cool stuff and history.
