they'll certainly have to pay some lawyers at least to fight about it, but I
assume that they have done extensive research on their end and are confident in their position that they can fire him for cause.

Anderson has done fine in his time there, so its not like they are using this as a pretext to get rid of him for football reasons. Whoever their university leadership is who is reviewing and deciding this feels confident that they can fire him for cause so they won't have to pay the buyout.
