Kalani and Tom need to keep Jay Hill on staff
What Jay Hill did last year was nothing short of incredible in his first year at BYU. Some of the best coaching jobs don't result in wins. I saw real progress in spite of a rash of injuries and a lack of depth.

Now, Hill figures to really do some damage in year 2 with more of his guys in the program, injured stars returning to the lineup, depth being shored up, and the existing players having benefited from finally understanding the nuances of his system. I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll be able to do with what he has put together.

If he goes to USU, a lot of that goes out the window.

This is a precarious time for BYU football. BYU needs to show real momentum this year. With Jay Hill's leadership, BYU has been showing a solid upward trajectory, both with what Hill has already done and with what he will do based on his solid recruiting wins. Hill's recruiting efforts have been outstanding.

Tom, Kalani - give Jay Hill another raise and lock him up for a few years. Utah is circling the wagons on Scalley. BYU needs to do the same with Hill.

If I'm Hill, I'm not sure I'd want the USU job right now, so maybe I'm worrying about nothing. (Personally, I'd avoid Logan like the plague.) It's fraught with risk, and better opportunities will undoubtedly come along at some point - especially as BYU continues to show improvement in the Big 12. But, a coach as talented and intelligent as Jay Hill will have the confidence to succeed anywhere - even USU.

My opinion is Jay Hill is the most important coach on Kalani's staff. If USU makes a run at him, I hope BYU does what it needs to do to keep him on staff.
