I find no coincidence in the timing of Utah’s odd announcement of Whitt’s successor, and USU’s placing Andersen on Administrative Leave/essential firing. They would have likely had advanced knowledge of whatever happened, through coaching our player leaks, and were making sure that USU didn’t have a chance to get to their top guy, first. It is the worst kept secret in Utah sports, so why else would Scalley need the announcement during a non contract year, when Whitt had not talked publicly of this being his final year. They were obviously leaked the USU situation, and their insecurity made them get out ahead of any potential USU offer. Not that I think USU or Utah is a great job, it makes sense for Scalley to take the USU money and experience. They know that he can demand more money if he goes to another D1 school and has success until Whitt retires. It is a pretty insecure move by a university that claims that they are going to instantly run the Big 12.
