prepared for the transition into the new conference because we did play a lot more P5's during the years of independence than the other new arrivals to the Big 12. I had heard the rhetoric on how this surely prepared us for playing a yet even tougher schedule. We apparently were kidding ourselves concerning that preparation. Partly the failure was the lack of luster in luring better players to Provo. Yes, we were playing a much more aggressive schedule than we did in our days of the MWC, but sadly, the mark of independence didn't bring us the volume of better athletes that we needed. I believe we've now seen, in being members now for a year, that uptick in quality of recruits. Based on that, we will incrementally get better.
